CHEER

Here are a few thoughts about the word CHEER as used within the King James Bible:

[KJV] Deuteronomy 24:5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.

Husband should always cheer up their wives – this is well pleasing to God

[KJV] Judges 9:13 And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

You can see where word “Cheers” comes from when you down the pub! Of course I haven’t frequented pubs are alcoholic drinks since 1963.

[KJV] Proverbs 15:13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

This

[KJV] Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

Your heart has the capacity to cheer you. To give you the disposition of boldness & courage. To cause your attitude to be that a one who believes that it is impossible to fail – that is in Christ Jesus.

[KJV] Zechariah 8:19 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

The most careful fees that I can think of is The Lord’s Table. I like to attend this table on a weekly basis on the first day of the week with the rest of my brethren.

[KJV] Zechariah 9:17 For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

We serve the ENOUGH GOD – the one who always has more than enough.

[KJV] Matthew 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

Knowing that your sins are forgiven ought to make you a person of great and good cheer – bold & courageous and knowing that it is impossible to fail.

[KJV] Matthew 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

This is a command of our Lord Jesus Christ – to be bold and courageous and to act as though it were impossible to fail – to be full of faith and rejoicing in the presence of our wonderful God who never leaves us or forsakes us.

[KJV] Mark 6:50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

Whenever Jesus talks to us he instructs us to be of good cheer and then gives us the reason for this. Notice the punctuation that follows this phrase over and over in the King James Bible.

[KJV] John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

What better reason to be bold and fearless?

[KJV] Acts 23:11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

Even when things don’t turn out as you would like and you find yourself pressed on all sides the Lord will always say this to you!

[KJV] Acts 24:10 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:

Always be prepared to testify of your experiences in the Lord Jesus with courage and boldness.

[KJV] Acts 27:22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship.

It is always NOW that we are to be full of cheer.

[KJV] Acts 27:25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me.

Whenever you are telling anybody else about what you believe God has told you – you should do so with great boldness and cheerfulness. This does not mean that you always have a smile on your face as you are telling people.

[KJV] Acts 27:36 Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat.

It is wonderful when you’re Fellowship with other brethren is full of good cheer – it makes enjoying a meal a wonderful experience.

[KJV] Romans 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

To show mercy and to forgive should always be done in a bold and courageous way believing that it is God who forgets and wipes slate clean. There is no room for un-forgiveness and bitterness in a cheerful Christian life.

[KJV] 2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Doesn’t he just! He loves bold givers who act as though it is impossible to fail!

Just a few thoughts about this wonderful terminology as it is used within the King James Bible. In the meantime keep rejoicing in the Lord Jesus Christ and the full of cheer because your names are written in heaven & you are now living in the power of an endless life. Dan.
