To answer this question, there is only one reliable place that we can go. We must allow the Bible itself to tell us where the New Testament source documents are kept for safekeeping.
Why should we take this approach? The answer is simple because we are told very clearly where the Old Testament source documents were kept, how they were kept, who kept them and the rigorous planes that were taken to ensure that they would continue generation after generation. I will explain the scriptures on this point in great detail if I’m asked to by someone making a comment to this blog.
Once we establish that God has clearly defined how the Old Testament documents were kept and preserved, we should be able to comprehend that God would take the same care to preserve the far greater words of the New Testament. We should be able to clearly see how God has preserved his word and kept his word. We should be able to find out from the scriptures exactly what method, he used to accomplish the preservation Of His New Testament Living Word.
The scriptures clearly tell us that the word of God is kept pure by God and that the word of God is preserved by God. So how then does God purify and preserve the living words of the New Testament Scriptures so that we can be sure that we are actually reading what God has to say. To understand this we are going to look at the very Scriptures themselves and let the scriptures explain to us how a God has perfected the way in which he preserves and purifies his living word in the New Testament.
By my count, there are some 444 verses on the subject within the scriptures. Not included in the list is the fact of the Tower of Babel. At the town of Babel God set the languages and the language groups of the world, so he certainly knows them all. Let’s go to the start of languages for all nations. This is where all the languages of our planet come from. God knows them and is perfectly fluent in all of them. He watches over their development because the difference in languages is the sign that mankind is still prone to proud thoughts against GOD and man must be kept separated and confused. It is not surprising that any technical course that you might happen to do it includes units on communication. Communication is extraordinarily difficult; it is meant to be. It is the continuing sign of our tendency not only to say that God doesn’t matter but to join together to endeavor to prove that he doesn’t matter that we are equal to or greater than him.
[KJV] GEN 11:7 – 9
[GEN 11:7] Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. [GEN 11:8] So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. [GEN 11:9] Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
So now we have the master of the languages of the nations of the earth watching over them. When God decides to choose a nation in Abraham, he is also choosing a language: that language is the Hebrew language. Many adventures happened to this people who are going to become as widespread and numbered as the sands of the sea and the stars in the sky.
[KJV] [EXO 17:14] And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
Eventually, Moses is chosen to lead God’s chosen people, and for the first time the word of God is to be written down in writing so that all of God’s people will have access to hear, to understand and to follow. Moses writes the first five books of the Bible; he writes more information and words than anybody, including the apostle Paul. I often think about the apostle Paul Riding on some donkey speaking in tongues of men and of angels, and I think about Moses writing away during the breaks of their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
We have a saying that if you want something done give it to a busy man. Moses was busy he was extraordinarily busy. Think about this desert wandering. Moses had to oversee the task. Every day millions of people had to be mobilized for the journey. They had to pull their tents down make sure that they had food and water and form this great caravan of people and animals moving across the desert lands. Imagine pulling down and setting up the Tabernacle every day. It might have been made of tent material but the inside was made of huge beams of wood covered with gold. It was a massive task of logistics to get this nation of Israel on the move and then settle for the next night. How did he find the time to complete the work of writing these five books? One could say that he had 40 years, yes but these 40 years went by quite quickly and they were full of events of their own. For instance, if there were 3 million adult people who all ended up dying in the wilderness then that would mean that on average 208 people died every day. That would mean 208 people had to be buried. Add this to the logistics of moving and then add this to the logistics of gathering the manner and fairly dividing it out, I would say that was a pretty full day’s work under any circumstances and having time to complete the writing out of the first five books of the Bible would have been a huge undertaking.
Not only did Moses write this for a memorial in a book, but he also had to rehearse it into the years of Joshua. He had to read and explain what he was writing to Joshua so that Joshua would know what the word of God was.
[KJV] [EXO 24:12] And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.
Moses wasn’t the only one who is writing, the Lord was writing out the 10 Commandments in stone, so there would be no doubt about what was to be taught to the Israelites.
[KJV] Exodus 31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
Moses wrote with some type of ink using a quill on parchment of some sort; God wrote with his finger on hard stone.
[KJV] EXO 32:15 – 16
[EXO 32:15] And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. [EXO 32:16] And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.
These two tables were undoubtedly the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God. The work that Moses was writing was also the writing of God. They form the beginning of the Scriptures that are inspired by God. In fact, the first book of the Bible Genesis was written by a Moses in a prophetic manner. Remember that the first book of the Bible and the last book of the Bible are both written as prophecies. The difference is that Genesis was written prophetically by looking back in time to the beginning and revelation is written prophetically by looking forwards in time to the end. Moses was not actually at the beginning of the formation of the world, but he writes under the inspiration of God in this prophetic manner setting down and telling us exactly how the world began, how God made the world and the accurate story that led up to Moses moving through the wilderness with the people of God writing the account of Genesis and then writing the next four books of the Bible.
[KJV] Exodus 32:32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin — ; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
Moses knew that God had another book that he had written. We come to know this book, later on, as the book of life. I do so hope that you know that your name is written in this book of life. You need to have your name written in this book of life, you need this more than any other single thing or matter in the extent of your life.
On this piercing note, I will close this blog to continue in the next one. It is imperative for your safety and well-being that you know that your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life. If you don’t know how to know this then send me an e-mail, I will only be too glad to reply.
